Bright Lights, Big City

Y1 Newsetter (Aut 2) Bright Lights, Big City >

Memorable Experience:

Year 1 had a fantastic afternoon at their ‘Queen’s Tea Party’, they created their own work, food and decorations to share with their parents. They enjoyed singing London’s Burning, London’s Bridge is falling down and The National Anthem- Their singing was spectacular and praised with several rounds of applause from their delighted parents.
The children had a fabulous afternoon meeting the Queen and asked her lots of questions about London, as well as trying on her crown!
The Queen’s response to the Year 1 tea party-
‘I have had a wonderful time this afternoon. I enjoyed looking at all the work the children have done about London and the tea party food was lovely. Thank you Year One. You are wonderful!’
Year 1 parent’s feedback shared in the children’s enjoyment of the afternoon:
‘The children put on a lovely range of entertainment today and the sandwiches were a bonus. Particularly good singing in the round!’

Topic Overview:

Bright Lights, Big City started with a bang, for their homework the children created their favourite London Landmarks, they then shared them with the rest of the class. They learnt songs about London and found out all about The Great Fire of London. To round the topic off, they used their knowledge to help guide Paddington Bear around the Capital City, drawing him a map including their favourite landmarks and using compass directions to help him find his way! Paddington helped Year 1 to compare London to a City in his home Country, Peru. Overall the children enjoyed this topic and are now excited about their next topic, Moon Zoom!
