Spring 1 - Did Dragons Exist?

FS Newsletter (Spr 1) Did Dragons Exist? >

WOW what an interesting and exciting half term we have had in Foundation stage looking for dragons. Our half term started by finding mysterious footprints in the hall and a scaly egg in our outdoor area. We had an interesting discussion about the egg and what creature the egg could belong to. The children had some good ideas and tried to give reasons for their ideas. Most made sensible suggestions about what we should do with the egg. From the discussions, a few of the children thought that perhaps a dragon had left the egg.

This topic has provided lots of creative opportunities. We have experimented with printing techniques to create a dragon and a castle and we have used mixed media to produce dragon pictures, thinking carefully about the different features of a dragon e.g. scales, spines, a tail, breathing fire and colours.

We have also considered what it was like to live in the past. The children were fascinated to learn how household items have changed over the years and what it was like to live in a castle.

Mr Cheesman emailed us towards the end of the half term, concerned about the mysterious egg. We used our writing skills to write to the mummy who’d left the egg, in the hope that she would return to collect her egg.

It was fantastic to see so many parents join us on Thursday 8th February to celebrate the work we have completed. It was great to see the children proudly showing off their work and enjoying sharing their learning journey so far.
