Former Stokes Striders in the News!

Emma-Achurch-300-x-200.jpg

As an inspiration to us all, have a look what some of our former Stokes Striders have been up to. They all started out in the Stokes playground, just like our current Striders so just goes to show what is possible with hard work and dedication...

Emma Achurch showed her international class by picking up a bronze medal at the Lugano Trophy. The Leicester Walking Club athlete finished third while representing England in the under-18 women's 10k race in Switzerland. Her time of 49min 31sec was just four seconds behind silver medallist Xianghua Xiao, of China, and 27 seconds behind winner Henrika Parviainen, from Finland.

It was also nearly a 50-second improvement on her previous best over 10km, and sent her to the top of the all-time UK rankings for an under-18 and seventh all-time for an under-20.

Club-mate Jasmine Nicholls finished eighth for England in the women's under-20 10k in a time of 54.03.

There was also success for former Striders in the Midland Championships at Abbey Park.

Laura Achurch bagged the top prize in the under-15 girls 3k in 18.04. Ben Allen improved on the bronze medal he picked up last year by finishing first in the under-15 boys' 3k race in 17.12.

Fiona McGorum was runner up in the RWA National Championships over 10 miles at Victoria Park in London which took place on March 9th.

Ben Allen has been picked to walk for England for the second time as they face Ireland on the Isle of Man

Racewalking Results Round 1

Racewalking-Oct-2013.jpg

Well done to all the Stokes Striders who turned out to represent the school at Saffron Lane. You all tried your best. I was delighted that Lyla, Frank and Hollie caught the eye of the judges and received Judges Awards.

For those new to the squad, 2013 has seen more representational honours going to ex- Stokes Striders. Emma Achurch and Ben Allen were selected to represent England in Dublin in June.

Jasmine Nicholls (now at university in Leeds) was awarded her first England senior vest. Jasmine showed her international potential with a third-placed finish at the Small Nations Race Walking event in Breda, Netherlands with a new p.b. over 10km. (53 min 57 secs – an improvement of 1min. 24 secs).
